Online Education: The Major Educational Reform
Education has extraordinary importance in all of our life. These days we all are battling with the awful and life-threatening coronavirus and it leads all of us to the major pandemic of the century. Everything is shut right from shops to schools and colleges except essential services. All the schools and colleges are now taking their lectures and exams through online mode. But this online education has brought the biggest educational reform in the Indian Education System. Yes, online education affects our education system adversely. Most of the Indian population is living in rural areas and there is no even facility for basic utilities such as electricity there. So, it is very hard to think about the situation of online education there. Millions of Indian students these days are struggling either with internet connection or resources such as computers and laptops for online learning.
In a real manner, this pandemic has hit the education system so badly. Even teachers are also struggling to get familiar with all the new online communication technologies such as google meet, zoom, and many more. For primary students, it is very difficult as they have to spend near about 3to 4 hours daily in front of the computer screen for online learning. Due to increased screen time, many students are suffering from eye problems and headaches. But there is no alternative to all these things. Many institutions and universities are also conducting exams through online mode for the undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. programs. Due to these online exams, students have to log in through their systems but often they face difficulties while login into the exam and even many students are unable to manage the smartphones and computers for exams as these things are expensive.
Due to this new normal of online education, parents are also suffering a lot as they have to give their most of the time supervising their kids to ensure that they are studying or not? Also, many of the parents have to leave all their work and assist their children to operate the online software for online classes. The same situation is for teachers. Especially the teachers from the rural side who don’t have computer knowledge are in big dilemma of how to teach the students. Moreover to all these problems, one problem has also increased significantly that some students are taking excuse of online classes and spending a lot of time on social media platforms. So, this is one of the biggest challenges ahead of parents to refrain their children from spending time on social media. On the contrary, there is one good reform that has taken place and that is that the students are learning new technologies at such a young age and even some are also learning coding and programming languages. So, it is very beneficial for their future career.
During classroom teaching or offline classes, students’ every doubt is get solved as there is keen attention of teachers on students but in online classes, the picture is something different. In online classes, students hesitate to ask questions and even sometimes they are unable to understand what the teacher is teaching. So, it is a very confusing environment there in online classes. Sometimes teachers are teaching but due to the internet error students are unable to hear what the teacher is saying. Due to which the teacher has to start all over again and has to repeat many times which leads to the wastage of time. In short, today’s online education has become the toughest situation for all the students, teachers, and parents across the country. But, there is no alternative to this and it will be going on and on until there is no improvement in the current pandemic situation.
